At Students Against Animal Cruelty (SAAC) we appreciate how important it is to keep your details private. This privacy policy explains how we manage, store and process personal data, and applies to the organisation and the website.
Collection of personal data
We collect the personal data that you may volunteer while using our services, either through forms on the website or by contacting us directly.
We do not collect information about you without your knowledge, or from other sources, such as public records or bodies, or private organisations.
Where we request that you provide personal details through the website, for example, if you join online, you have the option of using a secure transmission method to send us the data.
Automatic collection of data
We do not automatically log any personal data about visitors to the SAAC website, nor do we link information automatically logged by other means with personal data about specific individuals.
Storage of information
We take great care over the security of your personal details. Your data is kept in the UK, and we have implemented security policies, rules and technical measures to protect the personal data that we have under our control from unauthorised access, improper use or disclosure, unauthorised modification or unlawful destruction or accidental loss.
A member's details are stored on our database only as long as the membership is active. Membership expires on 31st August each year, and all record of the member's details will be deleted if the membership has not been renewed within six weeks of expiry.
The information you provide can only be accessed by those people you authorise and authorised staff of SAAC. All staff who have access to, and are associated with the processing of personal data, are obliged to respect the confidentiality of the data we hold.
Use of information
Personal data is used for the key functions of this site, including accessing 'members only' information and contributing to the forum. It is also used by SAAC for its standard operations including mailing electronic newsletters. Anonymised details, such as dietary preference or gender may be used for membership analysis. Your personal data will not be used in a way which is outside of the normal operations of this web site or SAAC without your consent - except where the Data Protection Act (1998) provides certain legal exemptions, such as in the pursuit of justice.
Disclosure of information
SAAC will not sell, give or otherwise transfer the information you provide on this site, or any other personal information we may hold about you, to any third party without your express permission, unless obliged to do so by law. With your consent, specific details may be made available to other SAAC members for the purposes of networking. You have the right to request that those details be changed or removed at any time.
Your right to access the personal data we may hold about you
To request a copy of any details we hold about you, send an email to web@studentsagainstanimalcruelty.org.uk. We may require proof of your identity before we will supply the information.
We allow you to challenge the data that we hold about you and, where appropriate, you may have the data erased, rectified, amended or completed.
Any data you provide will be assumed to accurate at the time it is given. It is your responsibility to inform us if any of your details change.
Cookies
When you log in to the private areas of the website we set a cookie on your computer. This is so that you can be identified by the system and so do not have to log in again for each page you visit. The cookie is not used for any other purpose, and expires when you either log out or close the browser.
