Compressed gas cylinders are an inseparable part of many industries where the scope of operations involve welding, flame-cutting, various types of heat and flame treatment, and other processes. Before we go further, please, note that many countries do classify compressed gas cylinders as hazardous substances. We’d advise referring to applicable legal requirements in parallel with this course.
Inherent hazards in the nature of the CGCs introduces the risk of incidents with potentially fatal or serious outcomes. CGC presents hazards in below categories;
- Product – the agent it contains, e.g. flammable, explosive, asphyxiating
- Physical characteristics – size, shape and weight – manual handling and security
Risks from the CGC hazard categories may be exposed to during storage, handling, use, transportation and disposal.
